Nigella Lawson, the celebrity British cook, will be allowed to visit New Zealand despite being excluded from the US after admitting drug use.

Immigration New Zealand has granted Lawson a work visa so she can shoot a commercial for Whittaker’s, the chocolate maker. Without special dispensation from the immigration authorities Lawson would not have been allowed to enter the country because she has allegedly been barred from the US.

Witnesses last month reported that Lawson had been refused entry on a flight from London to Los Angeles, although the domestic goddess has not yet confirmed the ban. Because Lawson has admitted taking cocaine on a number of occasions US law can ban her from entering the country even though there has been no conviction.

Lawson recently split publically from her husband Charles Saatchi and admitted drug use during a fraud trial. However, Whittaker’s appears not to have been put off by the scandals. This is the second time the chocolate company has produced an ad with the glamorous cook.

Although the confectioner has refused to comment on Lawson’s recent troubles Holly Whittaker, marketing manager, said Lawson was a pleasure to work with adding that risks had to be taken when working with famous celebrities.
