New Zealand Migrants angry over lost visa fees

An immigration adviser from Golden Bay owes just under $500,000 to creditors across the world and is unlikely to pay any of them.

Living New Zealand Ltd went into liquidation last year after owner Glen Standing was fined over $20,000 and had his licence annulled after giving bad advice to a client, reports the Press.

A final liquidator's account reveals the company owes $489,344, with no resources left to pay businesses and individuals. Among those unpaid are Rachel Yerbury-Wilson and Steve Wilson, who are owed $4,500, and now risk not receiving their residency if their business does not perform.

The couple emigrated to Nelson from Edinburgh last year after employing Standing to help get a business visa. Wilson said they have complained but are finding the process exasperating as they were sent to police and then to the Immigration Advisers Complaints and Disciplinary Tribunal.

Wilson said that no-one wants to deal with them, but there's more than $300,000 of money that is owed to the Government. Wilson said the money visa fees should have been kept in a different account, and not spent for day-to-day operations. The couple were finishing their first nine-month visa when Standing liquidated.
