The immigration of the UK has said that a new biometric enrolment centre in New Zealand’s Christchurch will re-open on 5 March this year.

The UK Border Agency closed the centre in February 2011 after a severe earthquake in Christchurch. At the moment visa applicants must visit the mobile biometric enrolment unit, which is there every month, in Christchurch before the new office is open, reports workpermit.com

The High Commission of Britain is also gathering biometric data from visa applicants to the UK. Immigration New Zealand (INZ) works as a collection agent of biometric data for the British High Commission as well as the UK Border Agency, both in New Zealand.

The new office will be open for appointments of biometric enrolment three times a week on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays, from 1pm to 3pm. All UK visa applicants must now provide finger scans and a digital Photograph of the face as a part of the application process for the visa.

UK visa applicants can start making appointments from 2 March.
