Hugh Laurie frustrated with Immigration NZ

Hugh Laurie, the British actor and musician, has hit out at New Zealand’s sometimes complicated visa requirements on Twitter. The House star was apparently taken aback by having to provide information to the New Zealand authorities on the state of his marriage.

Immigration New Zealand has been quick to refute the allegations that they need any evidence of the state of Mr Laurie’s marriage. Michael Carley, INZ’s area manage, said there was no need for the actor to provide any information concerning the genuineness of his marriage.

He added that Mr Laurie’s wife, as she is a British citizen, would not need a visa as she is not intending to stay in the country for more than six months.

Mr Laurie was reportedly frustrated by the paperwork provided by INZ. He has been married to his wife Jo since 1989 and told his thousands of Twitter followers that he thought the New Zealand immigration authorities were being impertinent and that the process of entering the country was eye-wateringly complicated.

However, Mr Laurie’s publicist in New Zealand has issued a statement in which she says the comedian was going through the usual red tape and had become frustrated. His Tweets were therefore meant to be tongue-in-cheek and were not meant in any way to be offensive to anybody.
