Scots interested in starting a new life in New Zealand and Australia are being offered the chance to find out more at the SECC in Glasgow on 22 and 23 February. Down Under Live is one of the biggest emigration and jobs events in the UK.

According to figures released by the government 489,000 people emigrated from the UK last year. Australia remains the most popular destination and in 2013 around 11,000 Scots chose to move Down Under.

Most people who move abroad do so in search of better work opportunities and an enhanced standard of living. Countries like New Zealand, Australia and Canada are popular because of the language and other cultural similarities.

Skills shortages in Australia and New Zealand mean the countries governments are actively trying to attract foreign workers. In New Zealand the massive Christchurch rebuilding programme means there are plenty of opportunities for migrants.

Down Under Live aims to provide visitors with access to information on how the process of emigration works and will cover subjects including shipping, visas and how to find the best schools. Employers and recruiters will also be on hand with hundreds of job opportunities on offer. Visitors will also be able to take a free visa assessment.
