Millionaires move abroad to flee British weather

New research suggests that more millionaires currently living in the UK could choose to emigrate to countries like New Zealand and Australia in an attempt to get away from the bad weather. According to the Lloyds TSB International survey, the weather is now the top reason for rich members of society wanting to leave rather than for tax purposes.

The survey found that more than a fifth (22 per cent) of millionaires intend to move away from the UK at some point in the next two years. This figure is up from 17 per cent 18 months ago and 19 per cent a year ago.

Where two in three of all rich Brits said the main reason for wanting to get out was the weather, 49 per cent said they were concerned about the level of crime and 45 per cent said they were worried about the cost of living.

Top of the list of countries wealthy Brits would like to move to was France. Spain was the second most popular followed by the United States, Australia and New Zealand. However, 64 per cent said they would be happy to remain in the UK.

Among the improvements that could be made to life in Britain listed by respondents was an improvement to public services, less business red tape and lower taxes.
