New Zealand is the most popular destination for immigrants who decide to move on from Australia, according to a new report. Australia has become a stepping stone for many migrants passing through to make a new home in another country. Other popular destinations for migrants abandoning Oz include the USA, UK, Singapore and Hong Kong.

According to the Department of Immigration, around 40 per cent of migrants moving on from Australia do not choose to move back to their country of birth. According to New Zealand’s Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, Australian residents are likely to be granted a visa that will allow them to study, work and stay in New Zealand.

Indian Australian Association of NSW president Dr Yadu Singh explained that many immigrants from India will move on from Australia to countries like the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong and Singapore because they are often overqualified for the job they are doing Down Under.

He added that companies commonly head hunt immigrants who have had experience working in Australia.

However, he added that New Zealand was not a popular destination for Indian’s moving on from Australia and that he knew of a number of his countrymen preferring to wait for a passport and come to Australia.
